'Outstanding Personality' at ESU Grand Final 2019
YGBM Represent Wales and Pupil wins 'Outstanding Personality' at English Speaking Union Grand Final 2019
On 27 April, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg public speaking team represented Wales in the English Speaking Union Churchill Public Speaking Competition.
The competition had over 1200 entrants and the last eight teams competed in the UK Grand Final at Churchill College, Cambridge.
Rhys Griffiths, year 11 pupil and speaker for YGBM team was awarded ‘Outstanding Personality’ for the competition. Rhys was accompanied by his team mates, Sara Jones: chair and Morgan Bailey: questioner. He spoke on the topic ‘We should lower the voting age to 16’
The Rt Hon Baroness D’Souza CMG, PC, DPhil was one of the judges and commented on the speakers performance by saying, ‘they were absolutely wonderful, there was passion, there was style, enormous content and structure and I was hugely impressed in the way they marshalled very complex material’
Another judge Susie Fowler-Watts journalist for BBC East added, ‘the competition was the most impressive yet and gives me get hope and optimism for our country’s future’.
YGBM sixth form pupil , Huw Jones was the timekeeper for the competition and also presented an opening speech. Huw is a former PSC winner and World Schools Debating Competition Wales Team member.
This years winning team was Pate’s Grammar School representing the Midland Region.
