YGBM Welcome senior diplomats from FCO
On Tuesday 9 October, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg school welcomed senior leaders from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
The senior diplomats held a question and answer session with students which gave the pupils an opportunity to understand the work undertaken by the FCO and perhaps inspire the sixth formers in their future career choices. In return, the visiting party learnt about the aspirations and issues that matter to this young generation.
The FCO were on a two day tour of Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan, visiting the Wales Office, Welsh Government and Senedd, Cardiff University, BBC, Aston Martin, Penderyn Distillery, Principality Stadium and of course Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg.
Mr Hywel Price, Head Teacher, commented, ‘It was a pleasure to welcome the senior diplomats from the FCO. Our pupils had a lively discussion with them and found the experience illuminating.
We are delighted that Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg was included in the tour itinerary. To be in the company of these distinguished organisations highlights the importance of Welsh language education and bilingualism in 21st Century Wales.
YGBM is the only 3-19 years state school in Cardiff and the Vale and we provide a holistic and seamless welsh medium education across the key stages. Meeting the various diplomats and ambassadors only emphasised again how important the acquisition of languages are in the world of work”.
Molly Cameron,a year 13 pupil, summed up, ‘It was extremely interesting to get detailed insight into the work of the FCO. Today has certainly got me thinking about that type of challenging career, diolch yn fawr’.
