YGBM U14 Girls Football Team To Compete in Rod Houston Cup
On October 12-14, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg under 14 girls football team will be representing Wales in the Rod Houston Cup, organised by the Schools Association Football International Board (SAFIB).
YGBM team qualified for the tournament after winning the Welsh Schools Cup in May. Where they beat seven schools to reach the Welsh final and clinched the title with a 1-0 victory against Ysgol Glan Clwyd.
The team now travel to Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire as Welsh Champions to compete against three of the five home nation countries in a three day tournament.
England, the host nation, will have two teams in the tournament St Ivo School, Huntingdon and Bohunt School, Wokingham together with the Irish Champions Sacred Heart School, Westport. Scotland and Northern Ireland did not participate this year.
Miss Bethan Price,P.E. teacher, commented, ‘women’s football is becoming a major sporting event and we are delighted to see the girls achieve success at national level. They all played extremely well and everyone at YGBM are wishing them ‘pob lwc’ for this next tournament”.
